My worst problems were with the software of the State, but also the Federal Government was not without its difficulties as well, and a significant weak point was dealing with conversion IRA. I consider myself modestly read and write the rules of the IRA, but I still don’t fully understand calculations TurboTax Deluxe federal + e-file + state 2010 fact nor could find an explanation of the program; the default response was to explain that retirement accounts can be a complex area of tax law and consult a financial professional. I finally had recourse to the purchase of a copy of the old reliable “Your 2011 income tax” by J.K. Lasser, who contributed greatly.
I have reviewed call a professional to do my taxes for several years, but I never because I’ve not excessively complicated taxes (well, in the over-verbosified ridiculously we code tax anyway), and I’ve always found that doing their myself with software assistance to me better understand taxes and help me to me do better and more tax-savvy decisions. Having said that, I find TurboTax Deluxe federal + e-file state 2010 adequate and no more, and in fact, I believe that it has become less friendly over time. Next year I can finally bite the bullet and someone to make them pay.
Worse in both federal and State returns this year is the extreme awkwardness in the switching between the format of the interview and the format of forms. In fact switching to forms is easy enough, but find the applicable forms entries is like finding a needle in a haystack. It was only my perception, but I found checking forms and checking that entries showed correctly is perhaps much harder this year than in recent years. (At least I think that I could think that until this exact issue was raised by a colleague who had also fought to verify the entries in the forms section of TurboTax this year alone.)
